Casual Fribsday.

There are some things you buy for their stylistic content.  There are some things you buy for function.  Winter boots fall squarely into the latter category.  In Northern New England you have to contend with about 5 months of snow a year (Nov-March… but not this year because of global warming no reason at all).

As far as I’m concerned, proper winter boots start at Bean Boots and end at Sorels.  There’s really no reason to get anything else. (true story: until I was in college I thought “Sorels” was just a generic term for heavy duty winter boots).

These Sorels are going on 12 years old and might as well be new.  I’ve done exactly “fuck-all” to take care of them, and they are just as waterproof, warm and traction-y as they’ve ever been.  Original laces, lining and tread.

Overshoes, or boots with a Dainite sole may work for light winter (or for the British), but if you can’t slip the boots on at 6am to clear off your car, trudge straight through 3 snowbanks after you move it, and then slip them off and have to do absolutely nothing to care for them, they’re not really “Winter Boots”.  At least as far as I’m concerned.

I just blue myself…
I know it’s Pitti and everyone is suddenly like “OMG!! Bright colors are the gratest EVAR!!  NOW WE LOVE BRIGHT CRAZY COLORS!!”  But this is just another day in the office for me (well… consignment shop, but stay with me).
Last Pitti, if I remember correctly, “Blogger Blue” was all the rage.  Well… that’s what I call “blue”, I wear it very often, and it matches well with just about every color out there, neutrals like brown, black, olive, and tan and bold colors from orange to pink to kelly green.
Plus it’s just about the only bright color that feels appropriate on a day like this.  I think we’re on about our 8th inch of snow.  Happy winter y’all.
